In this century technology has become a part of human life. Although technology has become very friendly and very helpful, it can be very cruel. Therefore, we as Muslims have to protect this earth, as the Quran says: “make not mischief on earth” (al-baqarah: 11). As a result, technology must not only improve our lives but also protect the earth. Nuclear technology is one of the developing technologies, and this technology is quite friendly. There are many benefits of this technology such as providing alternative of source energy, and minimizing global warming.
Firstly, we need to understand that nuclear is not as bad as we think. Nuclear can be an alternative of energy source. It has been made known that the current energy source from fossil fuel such as petroleum and coal are depleting. Scientists are actively looking for alternative energy. Some of these alternatives are biogas and biodiesel. However, these too are depleting, because these are from the same sources as petroleum which produces carbon. Another alternative energy is derived from nuclear. Unlike fossil fuel, nuclear does not produce carbon, so this can be earth-friendly alternative of energy.
Secondly, carbon dioxide is a result of burnt fossil fuel. As a result of this accumulation, our climate has changed so fast because there is too much carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere. Oil and coal produce carbon dioxide but nuclear energy does not produce carbon dioxide. Some people may argue that nuclear power is a sustainable energy source that reduces carbon emissions. We need friendly fuel to save our earth and to avoid global warming. So, nuclear energy can minimize global warming because does not produce carbon and can reduce carbon.
There are researches that are into looking at extracting oil from other planets such as Pluto. Scientists believe that in Pluto there is oil which can be imported onto the earth. They believe that we can import oil from this planet.
Even though scientists believe that we can import oil from other planets such as Pluto, Pluto is too far from the earth. Therefore, either we have to wait for Pluto to be near the earth or we sent ships to extract oil from Pluto if we want to import the oil. Since Pluto is the farthest planet from the sun, how long should we wait for Pluto to be near the earth? Even though we are able to import oil from Pluto, we still need vehicles to take that oil, and that vehicles need oil as fuel, and oil produces carbon, and carbon can destroy an atmosphere, and global warming will happen.
In conclusion, we need energy, and the energy sources on earth are limited, so we have to find an alternative energy that can substitute the fast depleting energy sources. There is no perfect solution to this issue. Each solution has a risk. Space researches as well as nuclear researches have risks. However, we have to find which solution is better. Personally I think we should use nuclear as an alternative energy source.
